3 Reason Why September Baseball Is Better Than September Football...

Trust me, you don't have to tell me twice that the Colorado Rockies basically were eliminated from the playoffs in late April. You don't have to tell me that this is the most anticipated Denver Broncos season since Elway. Both reasons should point to me wanting this baseball season to end as soon as possible, right? Wrong!! Here's my 3 reasons why September baseball is better the September football:

Mike Trout bringing one back in Baltimore
3. Every year it seems like the MLB always has those or two kids that you know you're going to be watching for years. Some pan out through the season and some fall a part and land themselves in the "every other player" category. September is the month where you find out which young stars are for real. This year was definitely not a disappointment in that category. Two names come to mind, for me, right away. Mike Trout, who's all but won the AL rookie of the year, of the LA Angels is putting numbers you don't see from the average 21 year old. He leads the majors in runs and stolen bases and is fourth in batting average behind Andrew McCutchen, Buster Posey, and Miguel Cabrera, who by the way is making his case for AL MVP...the only thing in Trout's way from retaining that piece of hard wear along with the AL ROY. Trout missed the first month of the season spending it in the Angels farm system battling an ailing injury he suffered during the previous winter ball sessions. Since he's been called up, he leads the league in WAR, wins above replacement and if you want more info on that crazy stat...google it, and been nothing short of spectacular with his glove. He may very well be the best defensive center fielder in the game today and if not now, sometime very soon.

Bryce Harper, "That's a clown question, bro!"
The other name that pops in my mind is 19 year old phenom, Bryce Harper. Although, he's not putting up eye popping numbers like Mike Trout, or he's not the main reason the Nats are going to the post season for the first time since 1933, you look at Bryce and just know he's going to be something big. His vicious swing, his cannon arm, and he can run a little too. I don't know many 19 year olds that can handle the pressure he's been under since he was a pre-teen, opening eyes of scouts across america and getting tons of national attention as a kid. He's been under the microscope and he's lived up to expectations which usually isn't the case with an up and coming super star in high school. Now, he's a dll grown up, well sort of, and he's in the bigs and still carries the same swag and cockiness that has him in the show. Everyone knows about the infamous post game conference in the Nats locker room in Toronto when a news reporter asked him if he was going to drink after the game to celebrate since the drinking laws are 18+ with out friends from north of the border. His response, "That's a clown question, bro!". These two up and coming stars are what baseball great in September and all around for that matter. Oh yeah! and they're both in the hunt for a world series title in their rookie years.

2. The Baltimore Orioles turned back the clock with their logo and with their winning ways. This season, they have clinched their first non-losing season since 1997. I was 9 years young!! But anyways, the reason I'm including them on this list is because no one, including everyone in America, did not see this  Orioles keeping up with the dreaded Yankees in the east. Battling injuries all year and still getting it done, the O's are a perfect example of "there's no I in team". Good luck to them down the stretch and i personally would love to see the Yanks not win another AL east title, and possibly even miss the post season. The Oakland Athletics to me are the west coast version of the O's. They were horrible for "x" amount of years and surprised everyone with this seasons performance. No one in America, not even Bob Melvin, could tell you who was starting for the A's that night or these guys even were. Not making a huge splash by the trade deadline, they did acquire Stephen Drew from the Dbacks and in my opinion, it has paid off for them. Of course, everyone knows about Bortols Colone being an idiot and Brandon McCarthy getting hit with a line drive in the head that has landed him on the DL, but the A's didn't let these bumps in the road get to them and they are keeping up with the Rangers in the AL west and as of now, have a wild card spot. Both teams have great stories going for them this year and September is the month for them to close out strong and make some noise in the playoffs and both have managers that can both win manager of the year, Buck Showalter of the O's and Bob Melvin of the A's. These one letter named teams are going to have the majority of America on their side come this October.

St. Louis Cardinals after winning the world series last year
1. My number one season as to why September baseball is better than September football is simply the final stretch of the season to see who's in and who's out. This year, especially, is one for the books. With the added wild card spot, which i absolutely love, adds so much suspense to September and makes things a lot more entertaining and meaningful. Think about it, we can potentially see a playoff this year with no Yankees, no Tigers, or no "dream team of baseball" the Angles. Or we can see three AL east get in and two of them playing number 163 on the season to face off against the winner of their division in the ALDS. Underdogs are everyone's favorite part of sports when your team isn't a part of the discussion, especially being a Rockies fan. This year is filled with them and they all have the talent to make things interesting in the playoffs. The A's, O's, and Nats were all the laughing stock of the MLB the past few years and now all of them have turned to their youngsters and are among the elite teams in the show. If you're a baseball freak, like I am, you know September baseball means a lot of things: Roster moves, injuries, late season call ups, and much more. But the most important thing, this is the time of year we see these players passion for the sport and we see teams best baseball played. Nothing is better than seeing baseball played at such a high level, with so much on the line!! Football season is great and I am overly passionate about my Denver Broncos, but the post season for baseball is far more interesting than the first part of football. Bring on the playoffs!!!!

PEYTON MANNING'S BRONCO DEBUT ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, WASN'T AS BAD AS IT SEEMS. 3 PICKS AND ALL.
Manning after his third, first quarter pick.
Peyton Manning had winning expectations on Monday Night Football in Atlanta. He didn't expect to open up the game with three straight picks and a Knowshon Moreno fumble. The Falcons defense was the clear winner at the end of the first quarter, but the rest of the game was a different story. Denver's defense, despite being put in short field situations, held their own the remainder of the game. Michael Turner, the Falcons go to back, was shut down and Julio Jones, there young up and coming receiver, dropped a TD pass early and was virtually not an issue as Champ Bailey shut him down. Roddey White on the other hand was having his was way with Tracy Porter and, in zone coverage's, having his way with the other backs including Rahim Moore. Unlike previous years, Denver fans could be down in the game and still have hope because of one man, PFM! Peyton led a comeback the last 3 quarters that came up just short in the end. 27-21 was the final in favor of the ATL, but Broncos fans can take a lot out of this game. A lot of what if, but still, do you really think Peyton will do this again? All signs point to NO!! If Peyton only threw 2 picks instead of 3, the ending score would obviously be a lot different. If "NO SHOW" Moreno, a nick name Denver fans have adopted for Knowshon Moreno, didn't fumble the ball while Peyton was doing his thing in ATL territory, the end score would be a lot different. All those things did happen and the Broncos came out with a loss, but a lot to hold there high on. The last 3 quarters were all Broncos. Going into next week as the Broncos host the Texans, you already know Peyton will come out on fire and it could be a long day for the Texans D, hence why I'm starting the Bears D in fantasy over Houston.

A clip from Monday night in the ATL.
